Friction Free Technologies (FFT) is a New
York based product development company, with the worldwide rights
to a number of patents (Patent #'s: 5,590,420
/ 5,752,278 / 5,829,057 / 6,061,829 / 6,143,368) that
cover the use of low-friction fibers and fabric coating in apparel,
footwear and accessories:
- In low-friction apparel/footwear that comes in
contact with the skin, directly or indirectly, to reduce friction and
shear, which helps prevent blisters, chafing, calluses and sores.
- In low-friction apparel where the low friction
is on the exterior to reduce friction and drag against the external elements
such as air, water, snow, grass and dirt.

Champion Sportswear has been utilizing Friction Free's technology in
such products as Champion sports bras, men's and women's running shorts, shirts and socks. Furthermore,
Champion has been advertising Friction Free sports apparel in such publications
as “People Magazine”, “Sports Illustrated”, “Runner's World”, “Mens Health”, “Rolling
Stone”, “Fitness” and “Marie Claire”, to name a few.
During a Guinness World Records event, the Swiss national figure
skating champion, Lucinda Ruh, broke the world's spinning-on-ice
record on the Today Show wearing a Friction Free Speed Suit. The previous world record was 60 RPM. Lucinda's
previous personal best was 93 RPM. Wearing the Friction Free Speed Suit,
she set the new “Guinness Book” world record at 113 RPM.
Currently in development are Friction Free Speed
Suits for Olympic Ski Teams. The U.S., Austria and Canada teams will be the first to experience the new racing suits. The
low-friction will be used in a number of ways to reduce drag against
air and water in a variety of sports including: skiing, luge, speed
skating, track and field, swimming, etc.
Whitford is working with FFT to develop finishes and fibers that
will provide or improve the low-friction properties needed in FFT's
applications. Substantial
progress has been made, reducing the friction of most common fabrics and fibers
by as much as 75%. Whitford's low-friction coatings come with another
advantage: abrasion resistance increases dramatically.
