WHITFORD
ANNOUNCES REVOLUTIONARY NEW COATING THAT OUTLASTS OTHER REINFORCED
COATINGS BY A FACTOR OF 10
November
2001
Whitford, manufacturer
of the world's largest, most complete line of nonstick coatings,
announced the launch of Eclipse®, a significant advancement
in reinforced coatings.
New Eclipse is a
three-coat system, reinforced internally, that is different
from all other nonsticks in three important aspects:
1. The primer coat
contains a carefully chosen and blended combination of resins
and unusually hard materials, permitting a far higher percentage
of special reinforcing elements than other reinforced coatings
contain.
2. The midcoat, actually
a tough primer used in other Whitford reinforced coatings, also
contains the special reinforcing elements.
3. The topcoat is
composed entirely of rich fluoropolymers, and is dedicated solely
to “release” (the nonstick characteristic).
The new Eclipse system
has been subjected to extensive testing, and the results are
remarkable. The most demanding is the Reciprocating Abrasion
Test, which duplicates the harshest condition to which a pan
can be subjected in the kitchen: scouring with a Scotch-Brite®
pad. Durability, of course, is not meaningful unless the coating
maintains its nonstick quality. So the Test is stopped every
10,000 cycles and the pan is subjected to the Dry Egg Test,
which assures that the surface easily releases an egg cooked
dry, with no grease or butter.
The toughest internally
reinforced coating previously tested was able to reach 20,000
cycles of the Reciprocating Abrasion Test before failure. The
new Eclipse system goes well beyond 200,000 cycles, offering
a minimum of ten times the durability (with maximum release).
Application of Eclipse
is easy on a standard three-coat line, using conventional spray
guns.
Eclipse has been
thoroughly tested on stainless steel and on aluminum, from smooth
to roughened surfaces to hard-anodized. It works perfectly on
all of these.
