Applying Xylan - Substrate Removal
Applying
Xylan - Substrate Removal
In
most cases, coatings are applied to parts without any provision
for the thickness that they add. This is particularly true when
coatings are used as corrosion barriers (within some limits, the
thicker they are, the better). This is also true of parts that
are stamped or deep drawn.
In many
bearing applications, however, tolerances are too tight to add
another 17.5 microns/ 0.0007 in. of material without any provision
for it. For these situations, use this guide: Where parts form
an interference fit, remove an amount of substrate material
that is equal to half the thickness added by the dry film.
In
all cases, parts treated in this manner should be thoroughly
performance tested.
