Xylan Industrial

The first brand offered by Whitford, Xylan® is the benchmark of our line of industrial coatings; used to identify our low-friction, wear-resistant composites of fluoropolymers and reinforcing binder resins. The Xylan industrial family of coatings (Xylan, Xylan XLR and Xylan XLR HB) are extreme performance coatings - working under heavy loads, at high temperatures, in chemical and corrosive environments.

Xylan

First and foremost, Xylan coatings are dry-film lubricants combined in a matrix with high-temperature organic polymers resulting in “plastic alloys” formulated to provide unique and desirable properties.

  • Low friction: CoF as low as 0.02
  • Wear resistance: even under extreme pressures
  • Corrosion and chemical resistance in most environments
  • Weather resistance: against sunlight, salt water and road chemicals
  • Wide temperature operating range: from -420°F to +550°F (-250°C to 285°C)
  • Flexible curing schedule: ambient to 750°F (400°C)
  • Wide color range: color-code your product
  • Pliability: Many Xylan coatings will bend freely and repeatedly without breaking
  • Machinability: apply multiple coats of Xylan coating (most formulations) and mill to specification
  • Excellent adhesion: to most metals, plastics, ceramics, wood, even to itself (most formulations)

Xylan XLR (Xtra-Long Release)

Developed specifically to provide dry-film release with exceptional resistance to permeation, Xylan XLR is a heat-resistant coating offering greatly increased release-life as well as a reduced tendency for formed parts to stick to the mold.

  • A two-coat, waterborne system
  • A unique, super-high release topcoat with a lightly reinforced primer suitable for a variety of substrates including carbon steel
  • A more heavily reinforced primer is available for applications where a lot of abrasion resistance is required
  • Is food-safe and can be used at temperatures up to 500°F/260°C
  • Improved hardness
  • Superior smoothness/higher gloss
  • Dramatic cost-savings due to reduced need to recoat

Xylan XLR HB (High-Build)

Better, longer-lasting release specifically for use on industrial bakeware. Xylan XLR HB combines two of Whitford’s proprietary technologies: Eterna (XLR) and Hi-Build Liquid (HB).

  • Doubles the film thickness of Xylan XLR – achieving 50-70 microns
  • Outstanding high-release liquid coating matching the typical DFT of powder coating in one cure cycle
  • Improved longevity of release in bakeware applications – additional value for the end user
  • In some applications replaces two topcoats of XLR – additional value for the applicator
